2010 adapted into a follow up flick

Posted in new movie releases on 29.09.11

On the heels of the loss of Anthony Minghella comes word that possibly the finest mind working in science fiction has died at the age of 90.

Arthur C Clarke, the man who worked with Stanley Kubrick to adapt Clarke’s story The Sentinel into 2001 and then saw his follow-up novel, 2010 adapted into a follow up flick, was one of the most influential science fiction writers of our time. He predicted satellites in orbit years before they appeared and his stories have been adapted many times into films and TV shows.

Born in Britain, Clarke moved to Sri Lanka in 1956 and, besides his writing, was best known for presenting Arthur C Clarke’s Mysterious world on TV during the ‘80s. Variety has more.

I had to wear blue socks over high heels

Posted in movies in theaters on 28.09.11

Delphine ChanĂ©ac is a French model and actress whose last American film appearance was in The Pink Panther remake as “The Ticket Checker.” She landed a meatier role as Dren in Splice, but unfortunately she has a shaved, cleft head like the lunch lady we all used to make fun of in elementary school.

A word from Delphine: “I had to wear blue socks over high heels, my hands became my feet and my tail was wrapped in blue.”

Worst. First. Date. EVER.

More pics of Delphine without a tail after the jump.

s a shot by shot remake

Posted in new movie releases on 27.09.11

OWF’s Adam Rayner attended a preview screening of ‘Let Me In‘ (released 5th November in Blighty) in central London last night, and confirmed my earlier suspicions of a shot-for-shot remake.

Yep, it’s a shot by shot remake (pretty much) but thanks to great performances and forgetting it’s a remake mean it’s brilliant. Review by Friday.

At 2.30pm today, Adam meets up with director Matt Reeves, and the two youngsters Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz. Full review/interview reports to come but I just wanted to get the early OWF opinion out there, as our U.S. audience have had the opportunity to see the film for a week.

In Abraham Lincoln

Posted in movies online free on 26.09.11

To the chagrin of President Lincoln, Alan Tudyk has aligned himself with the South. He’ll play Stephen Douglas, the real-life politician who pwned Abe at the historic Lincoln-Douglas debates but later lost to the tall mofo in the Presidential race. Who’s laughing now, slave-haver?

In Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Stephen Douglas is in league with the vampires of the South. It’s just the type of role that Tudyk can grab a hold of and chew the scenery. Hopefully, he’ll debate Benjamin Walker‘s Lincoln with kung fu. That would be memorable enough to hopefully help Tudyk pull ahead of Alan Thicke’s Google position. It won’t be easy, but we have to believe it’s within reach. (Variety)

but not a Tijuana strip club sort of way.

These photos that a Collider reader snagged from Steven Spielberg‘s War Horse set will calm your Monday morning nerves. I’ve been casually flipping through them with Enya on in the background and the outside world has melted away.

We haven’t told you much about the film since its lead protagonist is an equine and SJ caters to people, but basically a horse named Joey is sold to the army during WWI and it wants to get back to the farm boy owner it left behind. It’s a love story between a man and a beast, but not a Tijuana strip club sort of way.

Grab some Earl Grey and check out the pics after the jump…
